Humans, artificial intelligence and sentience
Mendelová, Michaela ; Vostal, Filip (advisor) ; Tremčinský, Martin (referee)
The thesis is based on the secondary analysis of data from the 2021 AIMS study. It is centered on the sentience, moral consideration, and social integration of artificial intelligence. My goal was to use a segmenting procedure (latent class analysis) to calculate classes or groups of respondents, based on their opinions on topics such as the inclusion of sentient AI and robots, animals, and the environment in the moral circle, granting legal rights to sentient AI, and support of the well-being of AI in the form of protection from harm or the perceived danger of AI for society. The analysis offers some results suggesting that there are 3 groups within the respondents and therefore possibly some groups in the US society. Class 1 is very contradictory, some respondents in this class are very supportive of AI, and some of them are not. Yet, overall, they tend to think that sentient technology can be dangerous. This class is generally the oldest and least frequently informed about AI. Class 2 is generally supportive of the welfare of AI, but these respondents prefer passive support. These respondents do not think that sentient AI can be dangerous for them, but they think that it can be dangerous to future people. This class is generally the youngest. Class 3 are respondents who had the biggest chance to...
Public Opinion on Education – Secondary Analysis
Tabery, Paulína ; Hanzlová, Radka ; Spurný, Martin
This final report is the first of seven research reports produced within the project Public(s), education and education policy: values, attitudes, reasoning, and experience (short title Public opinion on education). The project aims to map the views of different publics (actors) on education policy measures, assuming that these views are linked to broader attitudes towards education and the values held by actors in relation to education. The present report first introduces its objectives, followed by a review of research in the field of education that relates to the views of the public (important actors) on education and education policy, particularly those that are conducted on a regular basis, for which primary datasets can potentially be obtained for further analysis. This is followed by a presentation and summary of the substantive findings of the survey. In addition to the basic findings, which have already been presented in the original final reports, further analyses are also presented, primarily aimed at testing the questions used in more depth in terms of measuring particular theoretical concepts. The report includes two appendices: a list of variables and a tabular appendix. The list of variables serves as a practical guide for those who want to work further with the data, create questioning instruments, or commission or implement research. The tabular annex provides comprehensive information on the second-level classifications according to the basic socio-demographic variables and thus gives an overview of the distribution of responses in each subgroup, which it was not practical to describe in detail in the text of the final report.\n
Economic Crisis: Media Representation and Public Opinion
Picková, Martina ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Remr, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the current global recession, its presentation in the media, and the public opinion on the economic situation in the Czech Republic. It is based on the theory of agenda-setting. Content analysis is used to examinate the intensity of attention of two different journals paid to the subject of the recession in the observed period September 2007 - December 2011, with a special focus on December 2008. The objects of the current study are two Czech nation-wide journals: the economic newspaper Hospodářské noviny and the tabloid newspaper Blesk. The study shows that the economic journal presents the recession more intensively, from a more general point of view, and questions the causes of the recession. The tabloid concentrates on the Czech Republic, writes about the recession primarily in the context of non-economical news (especially sport), and does not use the mechanisms typical for tabloids as much as expected. A secondary analysis of the outcomes of public opinion surveys examines the readerships of these journals separately. The economic expectations of the readers of the economic journal correspond with the intensity of attention paid by this journal to the recession, but only in the first half of the analysed period. The expectations of the tabloid readers correspond with...

Later is presented the position of the world evaluation societies on the stakeholders. There are four methods of stakeholder identification: 1) Brainstorming, 2) General list, 3) Questions and 4) The snowball method. Own research focuses on methods of identification of stakeholders in evaluations in the Czech Republic. Data sources are evaluations of OP and ROP programs. Secondary and content data analysis was used to analyse the data. The result of the research is that specific methods of stakeholder identification have not been applied in OP and ROP evaluations. Health and Its Socioeconomic Indicators - Reliability and Validity Testing of Scales
Juráčková, Veronika ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Hendl, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis "Health and Socio-economic Indicators - reliability and validity testing of the PSAS" deals with a theoretical concept of health and its socio-economic indicators. A substantial part of the work concentrates on the application of PSAS tools to the Czech population and determining whether the range is reliable and valid for Czech respondents. To determine the reliability, a complex test is used for the whole range through the value of Cronbach's Alpha, and then the Item Response Theory (IRT) is also tested. The IRT test is done using the 18-point Likert's range of responses, of which is the PSAS composed. The validity is tested based on confirmatory factor analysis, using the construct validity as well as analysis of cognitive interviews for face validity. The secondary data analysis is done in SPSS, MPLUS, R, and IRTPRO programs. The last two programs are used to test the lesser known Item Response Theory.
